These symmetrical seals are commonly used in hydraulic cylinders, to provide bidirectional sealing for piston and rod applications. Their symmetrical profile simplifies stocking and fitting versus separate piston and rod seal designs, reducing part numbers held in stock. Because orientation doesn't matter during fitting, they reduce the risk of incorrect installation compared to a directional seal design.
